Classes and courses An introduction
Form
and content of summer intensive course Teachers Classes will be imparted by a combination of myself and my teaching assistants, using a coordination of teaching done by each teacher to avoid duplication and to achieve maximum variety and results. All teachers are of course both native and professionals.
Most classes in the course will combine: 1. General conversation skills and fluency in English through speaking and listening; developing student confidence; encouraging home study and broadening of horizons; remedying and correcting the particular mistakes arising during the course of the class and where necessary spending time examining any grammar, phonetic or other problems arising. This is done either orally or with the help of the “Student Starter Pack” (which is provided to all students by email or installed on their hardrives to bring to the class on their laptop or print off on hard copy as they prefer (copy attached))or with the help of the various other written aids and courses which I always have with me in classes on memory stick and my teachers have on hard copy;
2. Looking at and specific teaching of new skills and areas. These will include the following specific courses: Ø Review of irregular verb; Ø basic verb tenses and their use; Ø verbs + to or + ing using my copywrited courses (see “Student Starter Pack” attached); Ø Optionally, also review of modal verbs and phrasal verbs using my copywrited courses (see “Student Starter Pack” attached); Ø My copywrited course on making business telephone calls and practice by way of actual calls using the speaker phone in the classroom and the phone boxes outside developing general and business telephone skills (see “Student Starter Pack” attached); Ø English pronunciation and phonetics course general review and particular examination and oral correction of pronunciation problems that the particular students have as noted by myself and my teachers by way of my copywrited exercises (see “Student Starter Pack” attached) and where necessary my courses on pronunciation of the past tense ED endings; plurals and S endings and contractions and colloquial pronunciation ; Ø Reading of both normal and theatrical texts to assist with voice projection, intonation, stress, student confidence, pronunciation, expansion of both normal and colloquial vocabulary and speech patterns and comprehension of the regional accents I attempt (and of course for fun); Ø Optionally depending on student requirements courses and practice sessions on my copywrited courses on presentations and public speaking, meetings, sales techniques and vocabulary can be taught; Ø My copywrited course on business correspondence in English course and examination of and writing student emails; Ø Specific grammar courses such as my copywrited courses on make & do, the or no the, prepositions, phrasal verbs etc including exercises to do in class or at home; Ø Role plays and exercises to drive home new skills learned Ø Time is allocated each lesson to student questions. Ø Time permitting my copywrited courses on symbols in English such as (/”-_ etc, business vocabulary etc. Ø Optionally, written exercises to be done at home by students and to be brought to classes for correction and discussion; Ø Other source material and courses which my teachers or I feel appropriate to develop oral and written skills vocabulary and grammar.
The classes are aimed to be tailored to exactly what the students want and need and are therefore adaptable. It is also my firm belief that classes are only helpful if they are both informative and enjoyable. I and my teachers therefore always try to strike a balance in my classes to keep them both focused, useful and informative and lively and interesting.
